Although I 'officially' finished my year of 40 challenges in February of this year (2016), I am keeping this page open to explain what it was all about. The weekly blogs throughout the year of challenges will provide more information about the challenges I completed, and some that I didn't. The rest of this page remains unchanged since it was written in 2015.......
2015 is destined to be a great year for me! After completing a series of running events in 2014, I had what can only be described as 'The bug'. As soon as an event was over I was researching and planning the next challenge. Before I knew it I had 5 events lined up for 2015. After recently meeting an inspirational lady who had completed 40 challenges in her 40th year for charity, I knew what I wanted to do. Hence the creation of this blog!
I'm 39 in February which gives me over a year to think of and complete 40 challenges. There will be a number of physical challenges as well as some new experiences that involve no form of exercise at all. I'm hoping to complete as many challenges as possible with friends and family and I'm open to (sensible) suggestions to add to my growing list.
As much as I'm excited about the forthcoming challenges there is a serious reason for doing all of this. I'm hoping to raise £2500 for Macmillan Caring Locally. This charity is based at Christchurch hospital (local to me) and provides support to those who are suffering from Cancer and other terminal diseases where no cure is expected. They also provide support for families of these terminally ill patients. Nowadays Cancer is likely to affect each and every one of us at some point in our lives. I'm extremely lucky that members of my family who have had cancer have not required the support of Macmillan Caring Locally. Nevertheless the service and provision they provide is extremely valuable in times of need.
I appreciate that lots of people are doing amazing things for charity. However the support I receive through donations will motivate me through what is going to prove to be a fun, entertaining and very challenging year! My just giving page is https://www.justgiving.com/Karen-Irons-Mclean1
